The 1040SR will be available for sites to add to their custom print sets for sites that want to print the 1040SR for their clients.  We will not be adding it to any of the TaxSlayer assigned print sets.

  • If the 1040SR qualifies and you have a number of copies setup in the print set, it will print with the return

What qualifies the return to print the 1040SR (based on current IRS draft form/instructions)?

  • If the taxpayer or spouse was born before January 2, 1955

Why would I want to print the 1040SR?

  • It prints with a larger font

Is the use of the 1040SR required? (updated 10/16)

  • No, it is an optional use, printable form

What goes up in the electronic file: 1040 or 1040SR? (updated 10/16)

  • All electronic files still go up as a 1040.  Unlike the previous 1040A and 1040EZ forms, the sole purpose of the 1040SR is now to print in a larger font if the return qualifies to print in this format

Based on feedback from the field and concerns that too many volunteers have the ability to “Mark a return complete”, we will be removing the ability to mark a return complete for the following two security templates

  • PREPARER CURRENT YEAR
  • PREPARER ALL YEARS

These two security templates will still allow the volunteer to mark a return ready to review.

Note:  Remember, a return cannot be marked to review after it has been marked complete.
