Reactivating Returns

You may start a new return using the same SSN. The system will prompt you to either Start New (creates a new return) or Reactivate (restores the return to its prior state).

Return Filtering

Filtering by created date is currently not functioning due to an open issue (3876). The fix is being tested. Filtering by date modified remains available.

Reject Code 8962

We’ve seen an increase in these rejects. If no household members had Marketplace insurance, reopen the return and check one of the three options in the Health Insurance section to allow resubmission. Note that this may still delay the refund.

Volunteer comment: Some cases may indicate potential Marketplace enrollment fraud. Taxpayers should contact the Marketplace to prevent future issues.

E‑Filing 2022 Returns

The IRS supports the current tax year and the two prior years only. Returns older than that must be mailed.

Other Rejects

A prior reject involving Form 1116 has been resolved by the IRS.
A rejected spouse last name will not automatically change the primary taxpayer’s last name.

Amended Returns

We recommend using return tags to identify amended returns requiring transmission. Enhancements for 1040X visibility on Client List and other areas are being discussed.

Client Status Print Icons

Printer icons on the client status page should reflect the transmitted state of a return. A recent issue affecting this display has been resolved.

Premium Overtime (Box 14)

There are no standardized rules for reporting premium overtime this year. Taxpayers should compare their W‑2 to their final pay stub or contact their employer for clarification.

Paper Checks

IRS guidance can be unclear regarding check issuance. Creating an account or calling the IRS will not expedite payment. Refunds issued by check typically take six weeks or slightly longer. If processing extends beyond 45 days, the IRS must pay interest.

Message From Ohio – Incorrect Rejects

Update From OH (3/13/26) – “We successfully began processing submissions again last evening after 6pm and acknowledgements started going out after 7pm.  If you were holding submissions back, you can now resume the transmission of submissions.”


Software vendors received the below message from OH this morning. Once corrected, we will be resending any impacted rejected returns.

We are experiencing an issue after the implementation of error codes OH-IT1040-164 and OH-IT1040-165 and it is resulting in incorrect rejections for all Ohio IT 1040 submissions. We are going to be halting the processing of IT 1040 submissions shortly.  For any submissions rejected for error codes OH-IT1040-164 and OH-IT1040-165, they will need to be re-transmitted once we advise we are ready to accept returns again. 

We’ll communicate once we are ready to start processing IT 1040 submissions.

Users Reporting Sporadic Errors Navigating in Pro Web [RESOLVED]

4:15pm ET – All issues have been resolved at this time. Our teams will continue to monitor.

3:30pm ET – Return Summary calcs have been turned back on at this time.

3:12pm ET – Development has determined the cause and corrected the issue. At roughly 3:30pm ET, Return Summary will be turned back on while we continue to monitor.

3:01pm ET – Development rolled back recent e-file changes which now allows e-file to load at this time.

2:50pm ET – We are still investigating at this time. Current experience is the Return Summary is turned off temporarily and the Return Details page of e-file is not loading.

2:35pm ET – We are aware the Return Details page of e-file is not fully loading. Our investigations continue.

2:13pm ET – Additional deployment is complete. We are currently monitoring the application. We also turned off real-time calcs (Return Summary) as we monitor.

2:13pm ET – Another deployment will happen soon with additional updates as we continue to monitor the system. Slowness may still be experienced at this time.

1:32pm ET – Teams are continuing to monitor after the rollback. Navigation may be a little slow at first but should continue to return to normal speeds.

1:17pm ET – Rollback complete. Normal access to the application should be returning.

1:09pm ET – We are about to rollback a previous deployment from this morning.

12:56pm ET – Investigations are still actively underway.

12:40pm ET – VITA users have reported to support they are sporadically experiencing error pages when accessing returns and while navigating to certain pages in the application. We are currently investigating.
