The below highlighted checkbox in E-file under “Optional Questions” should not be marked for VITA/TCE returns, even if you are preparing your own return through a VITA/TCE site. This checkbox can create validation issues for state returns because they will be looking for paid preparer information (i.e. PTIN or SSN) with the return. This checkbox should be ignored. If you filed a state return with this checkbox marked and it either validated or rejected, uncheck the box and resubmit the return.

Issue 6721 has been opened to review a page validation occurring when attempting to click “Save & Exit” on the Submission page of e-file after marking a return “Approved” or “Failed”. The page validation that pops says “Invalid modification of client account status”. It appears to only impact returns that were in “Review” status prior to 1pm ET today.

New for TY2021, the IRS adjusted the age requirement for a taxpayer with no qualifying child when determining EITC eligibility as it relates to students.  A taxpayer that is considered a “specified student” must be age 24 before they are eligible to receive EITC with no qualifying child.

Within the Personal Information of the application, making the highlighted selection shown below will not allow EITC unless the taxpayer, identified as a specified student, is at least age 24 and meets other EITC qualifications. You should refer to IRS guidance on how to make the appropriate vetting process to make the determination if the selection should be checked or not.
