Resolved

The validation error has been resolved.  However, you will need to wait until we have enabled “Send State Only” to resend the returns that received this validation error if the Federal return has already been accepted.

How do I know which returns had the validation error?

They are listed on Reports>Validation Errors

~~~~~Original Blog Post~~~~~
Scenario:  You receive the following state validation error for MN:
This has been reported to our state development team Issue ID 872
Update 02/01
The Send State Only feature has been enabled
~~~~~ ORIGINAL BLOG POST~~~~~

We have temporarily turned off the Send State Only function.  If you have accepted federal returns and rejected states, please hold these until we enable this function again.

We have received some abnormal e-files and are researching the root cause.

Pro Online: Issue with Long-Term Care Premium (RESOLVED – 1/17/18)

An identified issue with reporting Long-term Care Insurance Premiums is expected to be resolved this week. Once the fix is scheduled to go live, we will post this information in a new blog post.

The Issue:

As an example, let’s say the taxpayer is 72 years old. The preparer visits the Itemized Deduction>Medical and Dental Expenses>Long-Term Care Premiums menu. The preparer claims the allowed premium amount for taxpayers aged 70 or older of $5,110 and saves the entry. The Quality Reviewer then comes behind to verify the entry. Accessing the LTCP menu, they see the preparer correctly entered $5,110 so they click “Continue” to exit the screen and move on. The issue is that the screen is incorrectly validating the correct entry by saying the “Premiums paid can not exceed $410” which would be true if the taxpayer was age 40 or younger.

The Workaround:

When this validation is incorrectly applied to the entry screen for LTCP, instead of clicking “Continue” to move on, click “Cancel”. Clicking cancel will take you out of the screen without kicking off a calculation which is causing the incorrect validation to show. Now, the initial entry made and saved is still on the return. The fix, when pushed live, will allow users to correctly click “Continue” without causing an incorrect validation to show.

1/4/18 – 12:53pm ET

This has been resolved and the update is currently being pushed live. Impacted returns will begin to load the Summary/Print page and PDF’s will begin to render as well. Also, we were able to implement Phase II of the General Sales Tax worksheet. Schedule A, Line 5 now shows the calculated general sales tax deduction based on the completion of the General Sales Tax Worksheet.

1/4/18 – 11:10am ET

We have received reports of the Summary/Print menu (and PDF rendering) not loading. Further research determined the underlying action is caused by completing the General Sales Tax worksheet within the Itemized Deduction>Taxes You Paid menu. For immediately resolution, delete the General Sales Tax worksheet. After removing, the Refund Generator will display and PDF’s will render.

Note: You can use the override feature within the General Sales Tax menu to manually report the general sales tax amount to carry to the Schedule A, Line 5.
